What is Wood Badge?

The first Wood Badge was in 1919, at Gilwell, conducted by Robert Baden-Powell, the founder
of the Scouting movement. Participants practiced the patrol method while learning leadership
and scoutcraft skills. Modern Wood Badge follows the same pattern to help deliver a stronger
program to the boys that they serve. Baden-Powell strongly felt that training is the keystone
of a strong troop. The Wood Badge trained leader is in a better position to deliver on the
promise of helping young boys develop themselves into young men, ready for the challenges
life will present in their future.
